Golden signs book deal with Addison-Wesley
Navica’s CEO, Bernard Golden, is
the author of Succeeding with Open Source,
(Addison-Wesley, available August 2004). The book presents
Navica’s open source methodology, the Open Source
Maturity Model (OSMM), as a framework for selecting,
assessing, and implementing open source software.
“The book is a how-to for organizations
that are planning to implement open source applications”,
said Golden, "the book describes each product element
that makes up an open source product and explains how
to assess its quality." In the OSMM, each element
is assigned a score, and the suml of the scores is the
overall OSMM score for the product. A set of recommended
scores is presented, indicating the minimum acceptable
scores for product use. “By assessing a product
using the OSMM, an organization can match its score
against the recommended minimums to determine whether
the product is best suited for experimentation, pilot
use, or production environments”, Golden said.
The book includes checklists allowing
easy assessment of each element. A website for the book
will be available at publication which will make an
OSMM template as well as checklist templates available
for download. For more information, contact book@navicasoft.com
